Covered Bridges

Ripley County, Indiana is home to two covered bridges,
Busching Covered Bridge and Otter Creek Bridge. The Busching
Bridge, near Versailles at the Versailles State Park entrance,
was built in 1885. Otter Creek Bridge, near Holton, was built in 1884.

The paved roads will take you through peaceful countryside adorned by

Stone Arch Bridges

 Built in the late 1870s and 1880s, Ripley County is home to many stone arch bridges.
Ripley County is one of very few counties that still have handcrafted stone arch bridges in use.

The small, quaint village in the valley of Friendship is
home to the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. Each
fall and spring the Association hosts national competitions when
people come from all over the country and world to compete. Primitive
lifestyles of pre-1840s can be seen on the hillside across from the
shooting range. Education has become a passion for the organization and
special events are held throughout the year to teach people of all ages
about history and firearms.
Lore of the Laughery is a wonderful time in May for all ages to experience the past from the mid 1700s to early 1800s. See how people lived and hear the music of the time by military bands and fife & drum corps.
Each fall and spring, during the shoots, flea markets are held in and around town. Treasures can be bought and sold throughout the week-long events.

Milan The story known around the world, the famous small-town basketball
team from Milan won the State Championship in 1954, inspiring the
movie "Hoosiers". Stop by Milan Station Antiques to see the Museum
which takes you back to the 1950s and learn about the team—and possibly

The hub of activity in Osgood much of the summer, the fairgrounds is host
to many activities, from the farmers market to yard sales to fundraisers.
The annual Ripley County 4-H Fair is held there each July. They also now
have a camp ground.

Sunman The Sunman Museum, made up mostly of the private collection of a Sunman descendent,
is located at the Sunman Town Hall on S.R. 101 in Sunman. The Museum is open 8-4 Monday
through Friday.

If you have an extra few minutes during the workday while in
Versailles, stop by and see the Ripley County History Tree in the
main lobby, first floor, of the Ripley County Courthouse. The
beautiful wood tree displays carved leaves that depict people,
events, and places in the county’s history that have significance.
Brochures are available next to the tree, or at the Ripley County
Tourism Bureau across the street.

Underground Railroad Driving Trails

Spend a day,or two, traveling the countryside and learning about the
history of the Underground Railroad through Ripley County. Five
driving tours are outlined in a free booklet that you can follow, mile by mile.
A DVD about the Undground RR movement in the county is also available for $10 that will take you back to the 1800s. Information is available at the Ripley County Tourism Bureau and Ripley County Historical Society, both on the Courthouse Square in Versailles.

Need a family get-away? Versailles State Park is a great place
to kick back and relax or get energized hiking the trails, boating,
swimming, or horseback riding. Sit by the fire at your campsite and
share stories with your family and friends or create new "fish tales"
on Versailles Lake. Bring your family or business for a retreat at the
group camp.
Once a year take the opportunity to listen to great Bluegrass music as
the leaves turn during the beginning of October. Enjoy the lakefront
view as the music treats your soul.
